In June 2025, Mwamba’s Co-Founder, President and CFO, Ed Cornew, was invited by the World Gold Council to speak at the inaugural Mining in Motion Summit in Accra, Ghana. This invitation followed Mwamba’s recognition earlier in the year as one of only two global success stories in mercury-free, centralized processing for artisanal and small-scale gold mining (ASGM) in the World Gold Council May 2025 Report on The Role of Gold Processing Plants in Artisanal and Small-Scale Mining.
Ed joined a high-level panel titled “Fostering Synergies Between ASM and LSM: Maximizing Gold Value through Collaboration.” The session explored how artisanal and small-scale miners (ASM) and large-scale mining (LSM) operators can collaborate to reduce conflict and create shared value, drawing directly on Mwamba’s pioneering work in Tanzania.
Mwamba’s Contribution to the Dialogue
In his remarks, Mwamba’s President highlighted the company’s processing and mine co-development model in Tanzania as a practical blueprint for ASM–LSM collaboration. The model is built on:
- Shared infrastructure through centralized, mercury-free gold processing plants.
- Mutual trust and transparency between mining communities and formal market actors.
He emphasized four priorities for industry and government action:
- Replicate responsible ASM co-development models across key gold-producing countries.
- Support centralized, mercury-free processors at critical “pinch points” in ASM supply chains.
- Back refiners and aggregators investing in traceable ASM gold.
- Leverage LSM’s proximity and resources to broker inclusive local development.
The Summit convened global policymakers, industry leaders, and innovators to chart a new course for sustainable mining reform. For Mwamba, it was a defining opportunity to showcase how trust-building, transparency, and professionalisation are critical pillars for transforming ASM into a driver of sustainable development.
