On November 4 – 5, 2024, the Mwamba attended and exhibited at the Africa Environmental Health and Pollution Management Program (AEHPMP) Regional Meeting on Mercury and E-Waste Pollution Management, held in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. Hosted by the National Environmental Management Council (NEMC) of Tanzania, the event gathered stakeholders from Kenya, Ghana, Zambia, and Tanzania to advance regional efforts in addressing mercury use and electronic waste. Mwamba was represented by its leadership team: Ed Cornew (Co-Founder, President & CFO), Samwel Bahebe (Co-Founder, COO & Managing Director), and Habil Deogratius (General Manager).
This event came days after the official commissioning of our mercury-free CIP processing facility in Buziba, Tanzania, a milestone Ed Cornew announced during a panel session on Mercury-Free mineral processing in Africa. He also addressed the social and technical challenges of aggregating ASGM ore for industrial-scale processing, and presented Wazi, Mwamba’s traceability and supply chain technology designed to enable scalable, responsible sourcing of gold ore.
The event, supported by the World Bank and the Global Environment Facility, is a multi-country initiative aimed at reducing pollution exposure, particularly from mercury in artisanal and small-scale gold mining (ASGM). Mwamba’s engagement underscores its commitment to promoting sustainable, mercury-free solutions for artisanal miners and the communities that depend on them.
